How it Began
Adele and Molly Roskin came up with the idea of Kids 4 Niños during a service trip they took in April, 2018 in Guatemala. They went to an elementary school in the town of Quetzaltenango or "Xela" and taught the local elementary students English. We loved the opportunity to help out children in need but thought it might be too difficult to do it often enough to feel like we were making a real difference.
As a family, we visit to San Jose del Cabo, Mexico once or twice a year. We love everything it has to offer us, but we are aware of the struggling communities just twenty minutes away from where we stay. Because of this, we decided to continue our efforts to help children in need here, through Kids 4 Niños. |
Our First Trip
For our first trip, we visited the struggling town of Tierra y Libertad, just outside of Cabo. Having never been there before we didn't know what to expect or what they specifically needed, so we decided to buy toys for the children. We bought soccer balls, bouncy balls, stuffed animals, and barbies to suit children of many ages. When we arrived, we were instantly swarmed with a crowd of excited children who couldn't believe the toys were free. Quickly handing out toys, we soon found that we had run out with many more kids left without anything. We hated seeing the disappointed looks on their faces so the next day, we bought more stuff and returned as we had promised them.
Casa Hogar
In January of 2020, we visited an orphanage in San Jose del Cabo called Casa Hogar. Like our visit to Tierra y Libertad, we brought several bags of toys for the children that we knew they would appreciate. Unfortunately when we visited, the children were away on a field trip but volunteers were able to give us a tour of of the orphanage and a list of their needs. Since our trip in January, we have been fundraising and keeping in contact with Casa Hogar.
